To celebrate the Johnnie Walker and ginger ale serve, the brand has unveiled “The Boldest Glass”, a drinking vessel that can transmit audio into the drinker’s ear as they sip. The glass uses “bone conduction technology” to send sounds into the drinker’s ears. The technology, which can send vibrations from the glass through the lower jaw and directly to the drinker’s inner ear, allows people to hear sounds engineered to enhance the brain’s perception of the flavours of the Johnnie and ginger serve. A spokesperson for the brand said, “This is an industry first marrying music and drinks in an intimate fashion that opens up possibilities for future collaborations and exploring the glass’ potential further.” The glass was co-developed by a company of sensory scientists known as Condiment Junkie. Creative director Russell Jones said: “The sound was created specifically to highlight the warm and spicy notes in the drink, after research showed that angular sounds dial up the heat of the ginger, resulting in an even bolder serve.” The surface of the glass is turned into a speaker, creating the minute vibrations. When the glass is touched to the teeth, these vibrations transfer from the glass through to the inner ear.
