Jobs Lost As Glass Firm Closes

A glass manufacturer in south Wales is to close with the loss of 167 jobs. Therm Tempered Limited, based in Llantrisant, made products including toughened/decorative glass & double glazing. Administrators Baker Tilly tried to keep the business going but blamed the competitive market and a fall in turnover over recent months. Baker Tilly spokesman Andrew Sheridan said the move would be "a devastating blow for the local community". Mr Sheridan said it was "endemic of the competitive nature of this sector". "Turnover was key to the company's success but volume was down in recent months and the company was unable to generate sufficient cash to meet its liabilities," he said. He added Baker Tilly had tried to keep the business going & sell it as a going concern but regrettably, because of the depressed state of the market & lack of funds it wasn't possible.
