Over 70 workers at Glass International of Pesaro, central Italy, have been temporarily laid-off after the failure of negotiations to arrive at an alternative solution. Workers are concerned that a prolonged lay-off could cause serious damage to machinery and have tried to reach an accord to keep production going. A court request for a EUR 1.5M guarantee is a substantial obstacle to progress towards a solution, say staff at the firm. Glass International works predominantly for furniture makers in the Veneto region of north-east Italy.
