[Italy] Glass Bottle Deposit Trial

Restaurants, bars, hotels and shops across Italy are to participate in a deposit return scheme for glass bottles as part of the government's aim to promote a culture of recycling. Customers will leave a small deposit when buying drinks, which would be refunded when the bottle is returned to the bar or shop. The initiative revives a regulation that has been in place since the 1980s. It will begin as a year long trial and, if successful, will be extended to other forms of reusable packaging.
