Isvv Study Reveals Short Life Span For Wine In Pet Bottles

Wine stored in plastic PET bottles starts to oxidise within 6 months, according to a new study that contradicts claims made b leading supermarkets on the shelf-life of the format. The Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences (ISVV) in Bordeaux carried out the year long study, which found that both the flavour and chemical composition of white wine changed within 6 months of being packed in single- or multi-layer PET bottles or bag-in-box. The wine did, however, remain stable in glass bottles, the study claimed. The ISVV results contradict claims from major retailers, including M&S, and Waitrose, over the shelf life of wine packed in PET bottles. The ISVV is planning to continue the testing for a second year.
