The US-based International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT) is calling on UK and global bottle and drink manufacturers for their input in developing technology to reduce the weight of bottle screw-threads. Jim Sykes of the ISBT, said that as the cost of foil and resin continues to rise, there is a growing need to cut costs by reducing the weight of materials. The ISBT has hold preliminary meetings with international industry representatives from member companies including Coca-Cola, Britvic, Pepsi-Cola and Berricap, to discuss the adoption of reduced height and lightweight plastic closure only thread finishes on drinks bottles. The ISBT believes it is just a matter of time before these closures are adopted by the major soft drinks manufacturers.
