Investment Will Bring Better Quality Bottles

United Glass has invested more than £200,000 to improve the quality control systems at its Alloa plant in Scotland. New inspection equipment from Inex Vision Systems and a hot end coating system from Elf Atochem have been installed. The Inex Prolaser system is a laser-based, non-contact dimensional measurement system that can perform precise and automatic measurement of the external dimensions of glass containers, as well as bore profiles. It can speed up the quality control process and provides highly accurate data which can be plotted directly onto a computer. A new hot end coating system supplied by Elf reduces the possibility of scuffing and uses the more environmentally friendly chemical trychloride rather than the tetrachloride used by the previous system installed at the plant.
