PIRA has now published the proceedings of its conference, "Intelligent & Smart Packaging: Applications for the Retailer, Brand Owner and Consumer" which took place in Miami, USA on 28-29 January 2003. Intelligent packaging in the retail environment as a topic included how it can enhance major consumer brands. Delegates spoke on smart packaging technologies for food perishables, plastic electronics including new polymers for low cost electronic applications and smart shelving. The EU's MyGrocer project was discussed, as was radio frequency identification (RFID) in the beverage industry. The conference also heard about the use of diagnostics in smart packaging, smart packaging for pharmaceuticals, and the consumer benefits of intelligent packaging.
