Insulating firebricks (IFBs) are well-established products for solving many problems of high-temperature heat containment in industries from ceramic production kilns to anodes for primary aluminium. The volatile energy prices of recent years have increased the importance of maximising energy savings in these industries. In order to achieve this, the kiln designer needs to know which IFB products cause the least energy loss. This article provides a study to help with the decision.
