Infrared Technology For Safer Driving

Night Vision is a driver enhancement system made by US-based car maker Cadillac, which uses infrared technology to detect potentially dangerous situations on the road. As the manufacturer explains, hotter objects appear white and cooler objects appear dark in a virtual image on the EyeCue head-up display (HUD). The image, which is similar to a negative of a black and white photograph, is projected near the front edge of the hood. It is in the driver's peripheral vision and was designed not to obstruct the view of the road. Such a display is, according to Cadillac, much safer than a screen mounted in the car, as drivers can glance at the virtual image without refocusing or removing their eyes from the road. Night Vision is operated only at night, when the headlights are on and a Twilight Sentinel photo cell indicates dark.
