Saint-Gobain has launched a research and development centre in Chennai, India. It is its seventh such centre, with the other based in sites worldwide. Close collaboration with IIT Madras is at the heart of the company's decision to base the research in Chennai. Saint-Gobain and IIT-M Research Park have agreed to develop the next phase of the research park with Saint-Gobain as an "Anchor Client." SGRI will support existing businesses in India, develop new businesses and nurture future talent for the Saint-Gobain Group in India. SGRI will collaborate with local universities and external partners to produce solutions for sustainable habitat. This centre will develop academic partnerships and will interface with other R&D centres across the world to accelerate business growth in the region. Future plans include programmes such as energy solutions for hot climates, energy efficiency in buildings and affordable mass housing.
