Improved Recycling At Halewood Yields Quality Cullet

Rockware Glass and Berryman, have been working closely with Halewood on improving supply chain, filling line and recycling operations. A review of the existing system has created significant savings for Halewood, while providing high quality glass cullet for Berryman and Rockware. The new system has also delivered improvements in efficiency, as well as health and safety. Previously, machine operators placed broken bottles in small plastic bins, which were manually lifted into open top tipping bins and then deposited into an outside skip. Not only was the process potentially hazardous, but glass was also being mixed with general refuse in the expensive skips. It also involved 3 separate manual handling processes. A specially designed bin now stands alongside the filling lines. No filling line operator needs to be in contact with the cullet.
