Corning has launched an improved glass substrate material for active matrix LCDs. In response to demand for a lighter, thinner material, Corning has developed Eagle 2000. The low density composition is the lightest AMLCD substrate material currently available and can be used in thicknesses from 0.4mm-0.63mm, compared to the conventional 0.7mm thick substrate. The combined affect of these improvements means the weight of glass in the display could be reduced by as much as 35%. The glass is already being tested by display manufacturers and commercial production is planned for later in the year. (whole item)
