Developed initially in response to requests from customers in Germany, the latest cast steel tongs from Johnson Radley further enhance an already extensive range of take-out tools for use with the company's Cerberite hot-end handling material. The new tongs are designed to handle lightweight containers which are particularly fragile at high temperatures. They have a C50 insert, which is held in its retaining slot by two spring-loaded ball bearings, providing a controlled degree of vertical and horizontal movements as the insert makes contact with the bottle. This floating action, says John Radley, reduces the risk of ware damage by allowing the insert to make contact with the container without any jarring. This reduced impact also minimizes wear of the Cerberite insert, thus prolonging service life.
