Opened in 1936, the Guinness brewery in Brent is scheduled to close in the summer of 2005, according to the British spirits group Diageo, which owns Guinness. "After making a strategic review of our brewing activities in the UK and Ireland, we decided it would be better to relocate the Guinness UK production to Ireland", Diageo reported. According to the group, "With our two breweries in London and Dublin, our production capacity outstrips requirements". Once production has finished, the Park Royal site will house the sales and marketing departments of Diageo GB, in addition to those of Diageo Global Supply and Diageo Africa.
