After more than a year of construction, Guardian's German subsidiary, Guardian Flachglas, officially started commercial production at the group's newest float glass plant in Wolfen-Thalheim, Germany in December 1996. The plant is located in the new eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt and, says the company, marks a significant investment by the US-based company in the former East Germany. The glass ribbon was pulled on 23 November, marking Guardian's 17th float plant worldwide in commercial production.
