Saint-Gobain Glass has invested in a magnetron coating facility for its float glassmaking plant in Yorkshire. The magnetron coater represents an investment in excess of £15M for the glassmaker. The new plant will be dedicated to the production of high performance soft coat low-E glasses for the UK and Irish markets. Production of glasses from the SGG Planitherm range is planned to start by the end of 2003. This major investment has been made in response to the dramatic growth in sales of Saint-Gobain low-E glasses due to recent changes to building regulations.
