Belgian glassmaker Glaverbel said it would restructure its Glaverbel Boussois plant in France and cut 150 jobs out of a workforce of 730. The reorganization is designed to ensure profitable growth for Glaverbel Boussois' two activities: production of float glass for the automotive and construction industries and glass processing to produce tempered glass for vehicles. Glaverbel, which has a worldwide workforce of 13,000 said the float unit plant at Boussois will be reorganized, while for the automotive glass unit, which is currently loss-making, the plan is to cut production and operating costs and overheads. "The float unit operates in a situation of very heavy competitive pressure; glass prices have fallen steadily ever since the early 90s," Glaverbel said. "Furthermore, costs at the Boussois float plants are not very competitive."
