Glassmakers Oppose New Regulations

Glassmakers are still trying to persuade the EU to throw out the proposed Noise Directive, which they believe is unworkable. The directive has been amended & British Glass is very concerned about the proposals. Other EU/EC proposals are also looming which could have great affects on the glass industry. CPIV has asked for derogation for glassmakers from heavy metals limits in the Packaging Waste Directive. CPIV & FEVE have both submitted that extra measures proposed for traceability of articles are unnecessary because existing pallet labels are adequate. Proposed amendments to the Packaging Waste Directive to set differential targets are being strongly opposed, & British Glass wants coal-bed methane classed as a renewable fuel for the purposes of the CCL & demands a mechanism to delay furnace rebuilds until the life of the current furnace has expired.
