Glassmaker Contributes To Sweden'S Environment

Waste water from Pilkington's Landskrona plant in Sweden is being used to clean waste at a neighbouring printing factory. The automotive glass plant uses up to 7 cubic meters of water per hour in the high pressure washers which clean the rooflights and backlights. Previously, this water was discharged to the sewage system but it is now being diverted to the nearby Scandiflex site. Scandiflex, which makes and prints laminate packaging for the food industry, had been using a biological process to cleanse waste from the printing machines. Now the installation of a water scrubber to make use of Pilkington's waste water has improved the efficiency of the cleansing process as well as reducing utility costs for both companies.
