WRAP, in conjunction with British Glass hosted the second Glassaction Forum for the glass recycling industry on the 2nd June. There was an increase in attendees from the last meeting with over 50 delegates on the day. Key issues covered during the interactive sessions included discussions on PRN stability, alternative markets for recycled glass and collection & colour sorting policy. Regarding operational trials - "Aqua Enviro" have completed pilot trials using recycled glass as a filtration media in a two stage filter for industrial effluent at the Croda Chemicals & Hartleys sites both which demonstrated superior performance using glass. Full scale rigs are now being set up. The first reed bed constructed using recycled glass as a replacement for gravel is being built at the Bernard Matthews site and is due for completion early July.
