Glass Winning In South America

Production of glass in South America rose 7.2% in 2002 and imports of glass containers grew as prices of PET containers rose, according to the World Packaging Organisation. It says there could be a long-term switch back to glass for food and drink packaging. Rising demand for beer, carbonated drinks, mineral water and packaged food has boosted overall demand for containers on the continent, ways WPO. But users faced with rising prices for PET material imports turned to glass during 2002 because its price was right! Even Coca Cola has switched to using more glass, it says.
