Glass From Silica Sand, Caldium Sulphide And Sodium Sulphide. The Effect Of Temperature And Oxygen On The Sulphides

Experimental melts with calcium sulphide and sodium sulphide instead of calcium and sodium carbonate show that it is possible to obtain a glass with sulphides alone. This applies also to the use of silicon sulphide instead of silica. A calcium sulphide glass with potassium nitrate for oxidation of the sulphur by the oxygen of the saltpetre gave a clear glass but sodium sulphate was formed.
