Future demand for glass containers depends on maintaining high levels of individual service, further reductions in production costs and technical innovation, says a new market research report. Key Note says the glass container industry has generated more business and stopped decline by meeting these requirements in recent years. It expects the UK glass packaging market to reach £720m in 2003, an increase of 10.4% on 1999. The report, Packaging (Glass), shows that glass has the smallest share of the total packaging market, next to wood, because sales are "mostly concentrated on supplying customers in relatively low volume niche markets". It continues: "These outlets are of paramount importance, accounting for 78% of the industry's total sales - and will remain so". For a copy of the report contact Key Note on 0181 481 8750 (£265).
