A group of Spanish architects have designed a "tree" of empty bottles of cider. The tree is on display in the in Gijon (Asturias), Spain. The purpose of such an unusual action was the need to remind citizens about the benefits of recycling glass. The impressive design and construction took a total of eight tons of bottles, and is set near the marina of Gijón. The architects took 4 days to create the tree, and in the process, used 3,200 bottles made entirely of green glass. According to the head of construction design, the amount of glass is not accidental - it corresponds to how many bottles of cider per year on average is drunk by a hundred families. Construction of the "cider tree," as the locals dubbed the monument, was carried out on the initiative of "Pidemunt" and "Labaula Arquitectos", who won the tender announced by the municipal company "Emulsa" in May 2012 to intensify the campaign to promote the idea of recycling.
