Glass Is Best For Preserving Wine: The Facts Speak For Themselves: With Wine Packed In Plastic - It Is Not Only French Pride That Is Dismissed!

News is currently running in newspapers that some French winegrowers have decided, although reluctantly, to pack some wines in plastic bottles. Because of the drop in wine prices over the last years pushed by some customers, some wine growers have switched to plastic believing that they can sell more into the mass market. But consumers do not like plastic and it is not the right packaging for wine. Switching from glass to plastics packaging makes glass the scapegoat but doing so will not be the panacea for the problems that wine growers are facing. On the contrary, by using proxies like weight or breakability to define greener choices, packaging decision makers are neglecting the fundamental role of a good packaging, the consumer voice as well as encouraging a break with tradition. The choice is at least questionable. The feeling is that mass market rules not only force producers to betray their cultural heritage but that French pride is also being dismissed! After reading the articles recently published on how plastics have so many advantages, why do wine growers continue to pack in glass? This article robustly answers this query and comes to the conclusion - wine in glass tastes nothing but wine!
