Get Your Safety Data Sheets Checked

In a recent press release by the HSE, it was recommended that employers obtain a copy of COSHH Essentials that provides advice on safe handling of chemicals at work. The new procedure is based on two factors, namely the properties of the chemicals involved and how they are being used, and it leads to measures required in order to protect staff. The procedure involves seven steps and these are clearly outlined in the new guide. The first step requires basic information on the chemicals, and for this up to date safety data sheets (SDS) which are fully compliant with the current regulations are essential. Failure to obtain such information could lead to incorrect COSHH assessments, which is potentially serious as well as being a waste of time and money.
