Gerresheimer Lifts First Half Profit, But Sales Dip

Gerrresheimer Glas AG announced it had raised profits in the first half of 1999, despite a decline in sales. The company said in a statement that it posted a half year profit of DM22m compared to DM13m in the year-ago period. It attributed the higher earnings to lower labour and energy costs. Sales in the period under consideration dropped to DM796m from DM819m. The biggest sales decline was recorded in Asia, the company said.
