[Germany] Gerresheimer Expands Lohr Facility

Pharmaceutical glassmaker Gerresheimer has expanded its plant in Lohr, Germany, with a new line focused on lightweight articles. The additional line, which brought with it 16 new jobs, was instituted at the same time the company was replacing the glass furnace at the plant. That was accomplished in just 43 days, according to reports. "We managed to install the furnace in record time thanks to the hard work and commitment of the entire team at Lohr," Andreas Kohl, GM at Gerresheimer Lohr, told media. The Lohr plant has clean-room technology and advanced production and inspection equipment on all of the production lines. The glass supplier has been on an expansion binge recently. In April the company announced that it had acquired 70% of shares in Mumbai, India-based Neutral Glass & Allied Industries as it moves to add more revenue from emerging markets. Neutral has a moulded glass plant in Kosamba where it manufactures glass vials, injection bottles and other products. That move followed the acquisition in 2011 of Vedat, a Brazilian manufacturer of pharmaceutical plastic packaging products.
