Gen2 Specification Gets Iso Go-Ahead

EPCglobal, part of not-for-profit standards organisation GS1, has been given the global stamp pf approval by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) for its UHF Gen2 RFID standard. As a result of the ratification, over a dozen RFID readers, tags and integrated circuits have been certified as Gen2 compliant by EPCglobal and are now commercially available. The Gen2 standard, which now falls within the remit of the ISO, was developed by over 60 of the world's leading technology companies. "The publication of this amendment to ISO/IEC 18000-6 gives the Gen2 specification global approval and makes it available to a wider range of applications," said Steve Halliday, chairman of the ISO sub-group responsible for the standard.
