General Electric Co., has opened the China Technology Centre at Shanghai, China. The $64M facility will serve three fundamental roles: conduct advanced R&D of enabling technologies for future GE products and services; provide engineering support for GE's sourcing activities in China; and provide education for GE employees, customers and suppliers. The new centre, which features 27 research laboratories, adds significant capacity and talent to GE's worldwide R&D activities. It employs around 500 people today with projections to grow to 1200 employees by 2005.
