The Food Standards Agency has advised of the following recent developments on the subject of contact materials controls: A revised version of the Agency's Explanatory Note on Legislation Controlling Materials & Articles Intended Brought into Contact with Food (Rev August 2005) is available from their website; 2 Commission proposals are scheduled for adoption at the next meeting of the Standing Committee on the Food Chain & Animal Health the 3rd amendment to EC Directive 2002/72/EC on food contact plastics & a new EU regulation on certain epoxy derivatives; Working documents on the following topics, currently subject to debate, have been prepared: 4th amendment to EC Directive 2002/72/EC, the so-called plastics `super regulation', harmonised rules on mechanical recycling of food contact plastics, a specific reg. for active & intelligent materials & articles.
