Formaldehyde-Free Fiber Glass Insulation

Environment Canada's Environmental Choice Program (ECP) recently updated environmental leadership criteria for use of the EcoLogo on thermal insulation materials: For light-density building insulation, the EcoLogo will be available only to those made with formaldehyde-free binders. Previously, EcoLogo requirements focused only on recycled content. The EcoLogo is EP's official symbol of environmental excellence. Reasons cited for the new criteria include: Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen; An alternative that is not carcinogenic is currently available & in use for batts & blankets; There is a meaningful difference between the risks associated with emissions from the production & use of formaldehyde-bonded insulation vs.formaldehyde-free insulation. Johns Manville, is the first & only manufacturer to offer a complete line. See: www.jm.com
