Coca-Cola Enterprises, supported by WRAP under the Courtauld Commitment, is saving 15,000/t of aluminium across Europe each year as well as making significant savings on glass & plastic. The firm has cut the width of the body of the 330ml can to 0.0097mm, the width is equivalent of a human hair. The 5% weight reduction achieved has made a huge difference given the company's volume of scales. In addition to saving 15,000/t of aluminum p/a, this will also save 78,000/t of CO2 emmissions p/a. The company also reduced the weight of its iconic 330ml glass Contour Bottle by 25% in 2007, from 263g to 210g, using new specifications known as the 'Ultra' design. This is not only significantly improved environmental performance but the bottles trademark dimensions have been retained with quality & strength maintained. The initiative is saving around 3,500/tpa across Europe.
