Consumers Packaging Inc has published its annual report for 1998. Consolidate gross sales for the year, including Consumers Packaging and Anchor Glass, rose significantly to $1,546bn, against $1,329.9bn in 1997. Gross sales from the Canadian glass facilities were marginally lower in 1998 compared to 1997 and results were affected by various factors, but which were mainly non-recurring expenses, for instance, a severe ice storm in Quebec had a negative impact onfirst quarter results for the year. Over the past several years, however, Consumers has focused on growth, particularly in N America, through the acquisition of the assets of Anchor Glass. Consumers also signed an agreement with its major shareholder, G&G Investments, to purchase G&G's subsidiary, Glenshaw Glass of Pittsburgh. (whole item)
