[Finland] Pilkington - Some Layoffs Cancelled

Pilkington Automotive Finland reported that it has called back to work in Ylöjärvi 20 of its employees who had been temporarily laid off. According to the company, demand of replacement automotive glass has increased because wholesalers have let their inventories fall very low. According to MD Tarmo Martikainen, the automotive industry is going through a difficult time, but he is not worried about Pilkington's future. Moreover, possible future mergers will not affect Pilkington as it has agreements with all manufacturers in the heavy-duty sector. Pilkington said it expects automotive glass surfaces to become larger & thinner in the future. Bugatti is just one of Pilkington's "customers" as the back & side windows for the Bugatti Veyron, the most expensive sports car in the world, are made at the Tampere plant, while the windscreens are made in Ylöjärvi.
