A new glass fibre factory is to be built at Trnava in Slovakia in a $100M investment by the US group Johns Manville. The investment is Manville's second expansion in the region since it acquired Skloplast in 2001. The furnace at the new site is expected to start production in late 2004 and will gradually increase output to meet market demands. Johns Manville, owned by the Berkshire Hathaway Group, was attracted to Slovakia by its costs, location, skilled workforce and its pending membership of the EU. (whole item)
