Fibre Furnace Rebuild

PPG Industries has completed the rebuild of its glass fibre furnace at Wigan and has restarted operation. The furnace had been closed for four months for the major refurbishment. Around £10M has been invested in the refurbishment, which helps provide PPG with the capacity it needs to supply customers over the coming years. Its plant produces glass fibre for reinforcing plastics and employs around 500 people. The plant is Britain's last producing continuous glass fibre following the closure of a rival operation at Wrexham. (whole item)
