The market for windows in Europe fell down to a level of 71,598M units in 2002, representing a net ex-works value of Euros 16.4BN. For 2003, a further decline in terms of quantity by 1.9% is anticipated. In value terms, the market is expected to decline by 2.8% to Euros 15.9BN. The most popular framing material in Europe in 2002 was PVC, which took 41.7% of the market by quantity, but only 36.4% by value because of its lower selling prices. Metal window frames, mostly aluminium, took 28% of the market in quantity and 29.9% by value while wood/aluminium combinations accounted for 5.3% of the market by quantity and 7.1% by value.
