Eu Rules On Listing Ingredients And Nutrition Information Should Apply To All Alcoholic Drinks

The Brewers of Europe have welcomed the EC's call for alcoholic drinks to list ingredients and nutrition information, matching the requirement for non-alcoholic beverages that came into force December 2016. Following a public commitment made by The Brewers of Europe, March 2015, brewers have been voluntarily rolling out ingredients listings and nutrition information across Europe. The Commission will report back in a year on how drinks producers are progressing with this voluntary roll-out of ingredients and nutrition information. However, the UK's Wine & Spirits Trade Association (WSTA) welcomes the Commission's decision not to force mandatory labelling at this stage, and is glad it has been left to the industry to come up with the most effective way to handle the problem. WSTA is concerned the proposed legislation may be a backwards step, and makes the point that believes people who want to know more about what they are drinking are very capable of going online and finding out for themselves.
