EU antitrust regulators have raided companies in the special glass sector used for optics and electronics on suspicions of running an illegal cartel, the European Commission said on Friday 3rd July 2009. "The commission has reason to believe that there may have been a violation in this sector of (EU) rules on restrictive business practices," Europe's top competition watchdog said in a statement. The commission said the probe did not mean that the targeted companies, which were not named, were necessarily guilty. However, if they are found guilty the could face fines worth 10% of their turnover under EU rules.
