Glass Alliance has published its overview of EU glass industry activity for 2014-2015, taking into account production levels, import and export trade, and employment figures. The EU-28 glass production volume (all sectors) in 2014 was more than 33 million tonnes, an increase of 2% compared to 2013 but still lower by 10% to 2007 pre-crisis level. It proves that a difficult economic climate still persists for the EU glass industry. The production level still maintains the EU as the largest glass producer in the world with a market share of around one-third of the total global market. Germany remains the EU’s largest producer with about one fifth of the volume, closely followed by France, Spain, Italy and the UK.
