A major cross-continent initiative to tackle food and drink fraud is set to start work after securing £8.8m towards its funding. The EU-China-Safe project will begin 1 September and run for 4 years, having been granted funds by the EC's Horizon 2020 R&D programme and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology. It will be led by the Institute for Global Food Security at Queen's University Belfast and involve key players in the food industry, research bodies and governments across two of the world's largest trading areas. Some of those involved include suppliers Cranswick, Danone and Nestle, and Northern Ireland blockchain company Arc-net.
