Swedish energy company E.ON Sverige AB said on 20 April 2006 that it signed a contract to deliver natural gas to container glass manufacturer Rexam Glass Limmared AB, based in Limmared, southern Sweden. No financial details were available. E.ON will also build a 45 km long gas pipeline from its network in Gislaved to Limmared. Deliveries are due to start in summer 2007. Under the contract, Rexam will replace 250 GWh petrol and diesel oil per annum, corresponding to a reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of 17,000 tonnes a year. E.ON signed the deal through its E.ON Gas Sverige AB unit. Rexam Glass Limmared AB is part of UK-based consumer packaging manufacturer Rexam Plc, which operates in some 20 countries. Rexam has 13 glassworks in northern Europe. The group employs 23,500 and has an annual turnover of USD 5.967 billion. E.ON Sverige is part of German energy group E.ON AG.
