The Effect Of Chlorides In Producing Opalescence In Lead-Containing Glasses

One of the most important effects of chlorides in lead glasses, especially from the point of view of the glass manufacturer, is the produciton of opalescence of varying degrees of intensity. Sodium chloride appears to have been employed in glassmaking practice for many years back in the production of opal or alabaster glasses. A batch formula for one type of opal glass is given, and results are discussed.
