Developments In Melting For Tft Glass

JSJ Jodeit, supplier of glass furnaces, has been working on the melting of completely sodium-free alumo-borosilicate glasses used for H4 car lamps, TFT screens and other electronic purposes. Generally these melts are characterised by extreme properties such as a strong dependence on temperature of viscosity, high corrosivity to normal fused cast refractory materials and very low electrical conductivity. However, the quality demands - especially regarding bubbles, dissolved gases and several components - are very high, despite limitations in using refining agents. The company has been following two directions in this field which are described in this paper.
