[Denmark] Holsten To Move Away From Cans

German brewer Holsten is looking to revive sales in its domestic market by moving away from selling beer in cans. The Carlsberg subsidiary plans to concentrate on using plastic and glass packaging for its beer, a report in Danish newspaper Borsen said. The shift is an attempt to regain market share lost after the introduction of Germany's deposit law without an effective return system, the paper said. Speaking to the paper, Holsten's chief executive, Wolfgang Burgard, confirmed that the new system is now in place, and that "we will fight all that we can to get back our earlier position with customers". He added: "That won't any longer be just cans but also plastic bottles and is also likely to be different types of glass bottles."
