Denmark - Cut In Duty On Bottles And Cans

It was reported on 17 June, 2003 that Denmark's Tax Minister was expected to introduce a bill in the Danish parliament to halve the duty levied by the government on bottles and cans in Denmark from its present DKK 0.5 to DKK 0.25 this autumn. Calculations by the Tax Ministry show that reducing the charge will benefit the Danish economy by DKK 40M/annum on account of a reduction in cross-border trade, lower prices and higher consumption of canned and bottled products. Hovmand expects collection and recycling to continue at the present level. The general effect of the tax cut will be lower prices for bottled and canned alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
