The Seventh International Symposium on Crystallisation in Glasses and Liquids was held this year at the University of Sheffield. Starting in the US in 1960, this is a major conference with a long tradition. With growing interest in glasses and glass-ceramics, the conference looks to bridge the gap between the scientific understanding of nucleation and growth in glasses, and the industrial applications of glass ceramics. This was an international event with representatives from Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, USA and many EU countries. The papers that appear in the April issue of Physics & Chemistry look at applied research for various applications.
