Glass International announced in May that Chilean container manufacturer Cristalerias Chile is to invest in a $100m furnace expansion of its Llay-Llay plant. It will construct a third furnace, with a capacity of 400/tpd. It is due to begin operation in the second half of 2019 and will increase the production capacity of glass containers by 100,000/tpa. The company said the new technology would comply with environmental and energy efficiency standards. The plant is considered to be the most modern it its field in Latin America. The new furnace will be the seventh for the company and will meet the needs and growing demands of the wine, beer, liquor, beverage and food sectors.
